First let's look at what I don't mean. By simple I don't mean:
Less expensive (necessarily). Frugality will certainly be a part of this but some things are more expensive initially yet more cost effective in the long run.
Easier (again, necessarily). Some things if done in a more basic way are more difficult – at least at first – than doing them the conventional way. For example growing vegetables versus purchasing them at the market.
Monastic. I'm not advocating selling all I own and becoming a hermit. I'm sure I need to pare down my possessions but that's not the same thing.
Pietism. Sort of the Protestant version of Monasticism. I'm not seeking to link personal holiness, or heaven forbid, salvation, with a simple lifestyle.
